Emily Bogle graduated from our program at RIT ten years ago. She’s a bit of a self-described ‘anomaly’; it’s not very often that you find someone who has stayed pretty much with the same job for almost ten years. Her work at NPR involves the editing of digital stories, something that many people seem to forget exist. Working at National Public Radio is not what many people expect a photo editor to be doing, but Emily is doing just that.

It was interesting to hear her perspective on hiring interns and freelance photographers. It’s always valuable to hear advice on what to do to be successful, but learning what not to do to avoid failure is equally as helpful. Not bombarding editors with “I’m Available!” emails, completing quality work on deadline, and generally being a good person seem to be common points made by each person we talk to. It was cool to hear that Emily started as an intern for NPR and has stayed with them since, her advice was extremely useful.

Our conversation with Emily was very informative and helpful and I hope to see more of her work soon.
